Hello to my favorite people! How are you doing? Any exciting books to share?
We have less than a month before it is time for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) once again. I can hardly believe that a year has already passed but I am super excited about another foray into writing with some really awesome and supportive writing buddies. I know I talk about NaNoWriMo every year around this time but I just can’t help it. I love being a part of the experience. People from all over the world come together with a goal in mind and help each other to achieve it in a fun and creative way. Who can say no to that?
Last year was my favorite NaNoWriMo ever thanks to the group of friends and fellow writers I met using the online writing network called Scribophile. I posted about it a while ago and you can click this link to learn more about it but in short, it is a place to find supportive beta readers who critique your work and offer advice for writers. I schedule most of my writing sprints with the buddies I made on Scribophile but I also schedule some for just my personal buddies. It’s free for basic use and there’s an annual charge of around $57 for premium. Anywho, it’s a lot easier and a lot more fun to participate in NaNoWriMo when you have other people backing you up and supporting you from beginning to end and even after that because on Scribophile, you can critique the works you had a hand in encouraging.
My favorite things about NaNo are the rush that the deadline brings, the camaraderie and the writing itself. And for those who have done NaNo in the past but not lately or aren’t very familiar with it, the did get a new website which is quite visually appealing but still has a few bugs since it’s only a couple of months old. Luckily, it is still pretty easy to navigate, add buddies and start a project for any vets or newcomers. Feel free to start a NaNo project here.
One thing I am worried about is how this will put a damper in my reading habits. I thought I made adjustments for every eventuality when I decided to read 150 books in 2019 but more and more things have been coming up and sadly I have been slacking a little. (If you want to check out my progress feel free to friend me on Goodreads!) I don’t think I’ll make it to my goal if I factor in how much I want to get done this November.
Feel free to add me as a NaNo buddy, just look me up under the username Chyina and I will make sure to add you so that we can do some sprints together and encourage each other.
Don’t forget to spread the word about NaNoWriMo and grow our bookish family by following this blog and checking me out @Chyina_Powell on Instagram.
Happy Writing!
